POSITION SUMMARY
The Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) delivers goal oriented physical therapy services under the direction and supervision of the Physiotherapist. Temporary position opening will begin in late March 2025.
PATIENT ASSESSMENT:
- Observe patients during treatment sessions to determine their status of health and report any concerns or changes to the Physiotherapist
ONGOING TREATMENT:

Carry out the treatment plan as delegated by the Physiotherapist

Modify the treatment plan based on changes delegated by the Physiotherapist
-
Educate the patient or caregiver regarding the disease/injury process, treatment rationale, safety measures, self-management and use of assistive devices prescribed by the Physiotherapist

Maintain progress notes and attendance records on treatment provided to patients
DEPARTMENTAL DUTIES:

Maintain and ensure a clean and tidy work environment within the departmental area

Maintain and order appropriate levels of supplies for the department

Maintain a schedule and ensure equipment is cleaned regularly
CLERICAL DUTIES:
-
Answer phones, take messages, check for voice mail messages

File charts as needed
-
Maintain and photocopy assessment/exercise forms and patient appointment cards used within the department

Accept referrals, record them in the wait list book

Call referred patients to book initial assessments with the Physiotherapist

Maintain the scheduler for daily patient appointments

Mail out of fax referrals received but deemed appropriate for our physiotherapy partners of the Manitoulin Physiotherapy Cooperative

Provide travel/attendance forms

QUALIFICATIONS: (Education, Certifications, Experience, Licensure)
Required:
- Physiotherapy Assistant Diploma from an accredited college program or equivalent
Preferred:
- Previous experience in a hospital physiotherapy department

COMPETENCIES/TECHNICAL:

Proficiency in computer software applications: Meditech Client, Microsoft Office, Physio-Tools, Policy & Procedures platform, and Learning Management System

Knowledge of Bill of Patient Rights

Proficient and knowledge of infection control policies and procedures including hand hygiene and isolation protocols

Proficiency and knowledge related to exercise, physical therapy modalities and disease/injury processes
-
Knowledge of the treatment modalities and exercises delegated by the Physiotherapist
-
Knowledge of contraindications, limitations and hazards of treatments and pathologies encountered in the practice
-
Proficiency in use of department equipment
