The Emergency Department will remain open on October 9th for 24/7 care.
Nurses can provide basic first aid services only. They require a physician to be available to provide orders for things such as medications, tests, and interventions, as per practice regulations and hospital legislation.
Call 911 - The Paramedics will transport you to the next nearest available hospital (Little Current).
At the Hospital, our collaborative and caring team helps foster a positive experience.
Locally, we can and do work to ensure the most inviting working and living conditions possible for Physicians and their families. This can include having inviting housing, warmly welcoming them, helping partners secure employment, and helping families integrate into the community.
More broadly, there is a need to address physician distribution and funding models to make them more equitable and incentivize northern work.
People with emergent health problems should call 911 and request Paramedic Services. You may be transported to the nearest available hospital Emergency Department to receive treatment.
You may choose to travel to the next closest Emergency Department, which is in Little Current.
For less emergent health problems, call the Health Connect Ontario by dialing 811.
Contact your family doctor’s office to see if appointments are available.
Physician shortages have been occurring throughout Ontario. Many Ontario hospitals have experienced closure and/or threatened Emergency Department closures in the last year.
For example:
We are hopeful that we will be able to avoid some of the proposed Emergency Department closures. The public will be notified 48 hours prior to a confirmed closure. Visit our website at www.mhc.on.ca for more information.
If you are unsure, please call the hospital at 705-377-5311 to confirm that the emergency department is open.
Physicians who are part of the local physician contract at the Mindemoya site and separately for the Little Current site are responsible for scheduling Emergency Department shifts at each site, amongst themselves. Physicians then provide their schedule to the Hospital. The Hospital does not schedule physicians.
The hospital and local communities support a physician recruiter to work with the physician groups to fill any physician vacancies in the Emergency Department and the clinics.
Any of the Hospital leadership team, or, after hours, administrator on call can be reached by our nurses for urgent matters at 705-368-2300.
