Mindemoya, ON - On March 5 2021 the Manitoulin Health Centre (MHC) received a donation of $20,000 from the Gore Bay Masonic Lodge. These funds are earmarked to expand the emergency department facilities at MHC’s Mindemoya location.
According to Angela Becks, Chair of MHC Fundraising Committee “MHC's Mindemoya Site has a long history of serving patients. While infrastructure investments have been made over the years, Manitoulin Health Centre recognized the time had come to target the Emergency Department at that site. The renovation and extension of the emergency department will improve physical space and flow. Both are much needed as MHC strives to meet it goals and mission of putting patients first.
The total project cost is estimated to be $5 million. One half of the cost is being funded by MHC through its own resources. The Fundraising Committee is reaching out to the community for assistance with the other half. Fundraising has been in a quiet phase for the past year. Friends of MHC, like the Gore Bay Masonic Lodge, have shown wonderful support and philanthropy to help reach the goal in transforming healthcare on Manitoulin Island.
This spring the project will be entering its public phase and the design plan will become a construction project. Stay tuned to the MHC website at www.mhc.on.ca and to the Facebook page for fundraising updates and information on how to participate”.
Lynn Foster, CEO of MHC says “On behalf of the Manitoulin Health Centre, I was pleased to meet with representatives from the Gore Bay chapter of the Masonic Lodge, Adam, Marcus and Aaron. It is regrettable that their chapter is dissolving. I was touched that in closing off their activities they thought of giving to MHC’s Lets Emerge Together campaign. A sincere thank you is extended to the Gore Bay chapter for their generosity, together we are building a legacy for our community.”
MHC, the Board of Directors and the Fundraising Committee would like to express their sincere thanks to the Gore Bay Masonic Lodge for their interest and investment in the health of our community.
