We’re Making a Change!

Launching Safer, Better, Smarter Care

Patient care is improving. The way we work is transforming.

On June 4, Manitoulin Health Centre, along with 23 other hospitals across Northeastern Ontario, is launching a new electronic health information system.

While becoming more familiar with our new technology, some processes may take longer than usual when we first launch. Our focus remains on providing the best care possible to our patients and their families.

The transformation will benefit our patients in many important ways, including:

  • Helping prevent medication errors.
  • Providing care teams with complete and timely access to a patient’s journey.
  • Helping patients tell their story/history.
  • Eliminating difficult-to-read handwritten notes.
  • Keeping a patient’s medical record in one single, secure, and accessible place.

PREPARING FOR THE CHANGE ON JUNE 4, 2024

Parking

There is no cost to park at either the Mindemoya or Little Current sites of Manitoulin Health Centre.

Manitoulin Health Centre welcomes visitors from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily

  • In consideration of other resting patients and care requirements, visitors are limited to two visitors per patients at one time.
  • Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult and be supervised at all times.
  • Visiting patients in the Emergency Department (ED) is determined by the ED staff.
  • Please check with the nursing staff to discuss visiting options for special care areas such as Labour and Delivery and the Hospice Suite.
  • If patients require additional rest or are undergoing a procedure, visiting may be restricted.
  • If you see signage outside a patient’s room indicating that precautions must be taken, please speak to a nurse before entering the room. This is to protect both you and the patient.

These visiting guidelines are intended to provide our patients with privacy and the time that they need to rest and to heal, and to help us reduce the risk of infection.

The main entrance at both sites will be locked between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.

Visitor restrictions will continue to be implemented in specific circumstances such as an outbreak or emergency situations.

Barrier free washrooms are available for your use in the main corridors at each site.

It is important to clean your hands before and after visiting. Please use the hand sanitizer solution provided in hallways, patient rooms and main entrances.

MHC is a scent aware facility. Please limit the use of scents prior to visiting as some staff, patients, and visitors are sensitive to scents.

We look forward to your visit!
